Goodie gold

Some of us never left the neighbourhood.

SimGoodie · A life sim for Mac and Windows · In development

A whole town, from the harbour to the hilltop.

Walk out the front door and keep going: past the neighbours' gardens, up the steps to the Overlook, down to the bay. No loading screens.

A game in development. The Game Log records what is working in test builds and what still needs work.

Linden Crescent at golden hour, looking into the low sun: the road curves past street lamps and a stone wall topped with pink hydrangeas.

One town, no loading screens

Goodhaven is built as one connected place. Leave the front door, pass the neighbours' gardens, take the hairpin and keep going to the bay without the game cutting to a map.

People with reasons

Residents have needs, moods, fears, skills and careers, and they remember what happened yesterday. When someone refuses to cook, the game tells you why.

Cook a meal first.

A cream house with a gabled roof above stone gate pillars, a flight of steps and a hydrangea-topped wall, in warm evening light.

Build the house, then live in it

Walls, floors, doors and a catalog of furniture you place, turn, sell and replace. The household uses whatever you put down.

Made in the open.

One person is building SimGoodie, and every two weeks the Game Log says what changed and what went wrong. Some pages from the first one.

The evening everyone starved

Cook a meal first.

Six cooked meals on the counter. The game was still looking for one particular stove.

Linden Rise, take one

The first version of Linden Rise from above: a flat plot of land with houses laid out on a grid.

Flat, and nothing like the concept. It came down.

Torn down

The blueprint

The to-scale blueprint of Linden Rise: numbered lots along a curving road.

Take two started from a to-scale plan: which lots go where, and how steep the street is.

Take two

The rebuilt Linden Rise at 7:30 pm: a road curving up past gardens and trees.

Inside a development build

The renders above come from the game's own scene. The captures below show the game running during development; they are not a release announcement.

Shared neighbourhoods with friends are planned for later; the current focus is single-player.
